The use-value is the value of a commodity, based on satisfying a human want (subjective).

  • If you have no use for a product, it has no use-value to you.
  • Use values don’t need to be physical things, e.g. singing for enjoyment.
  • Products exchanged on the market have a use-value, otherwise you couldn’t sell them to anybody … in which case they wouldn’t be a commodity.
    • Question: What is the role of advertisement?
  • Having a bunch of use-values makes you wealthy.
  • Use values are a material thing and they exist irrespective of the form of society.
  • Use value is differnt to labor theory of value
  • I tend to think of use-values as binary a lot of the time.
