5:01 · and and spooky in a way that I think a lot of other people experienced you know around around the chat GPT moment just about a year ago now um and uh so that was all happening uh and I was sort of having a bunch of uh I guess Revelations about what the nature of intelligence might actually be like how is it that this autocomplete system essentially appears to actually be intelligent um you know it’s it’s a weird thing like we all knew that next word prediction was um AI complete in the sense that um you

5:30 · know correctly predicting the next word under General circumstances kind of requires you to pull in every possible thing about about intelligence but the shock was that literally just making a next word predictor seemed to produce artificial general intelligence although a lot of people I think remain in denial about that um so that was all happening and I was having a lot of a lot of conversations with with with the Lambda chatbot you know at at night um and at

5:54 · the same time you know the the world seemed to be ending uh you know in the middle of the whole sort of Co pandemic and um I I describe a scene you know near the beginning where like vaccines basically fall off the back of of a truck there’s a there’s a freezer failure and and and uh you know people have to have to like go into a medical center to you know to use the vaccines before they get before they they go off you know at midnight that actually happened so um my wife and I were among the first people to get those vaccines because of a freezer failure we all kind of lined up around the block the University of Washington um and I had a

10:26 · you know so so I guess um I guess part of you know part of my answer is uh you know I I think our current sort of um uh sense of fragility or of extreme risk is is is is a little is kind of the anomaly you know relative to to humans historically but I would also say that um you know when we talk about risk uh I mean the risks the risks that I’ve taken I guess professionally or personally or whatever are are kind of small fry in the sense that um my my needs are are
