Every communist ought to be a professional revolutionary. - Lenin

He didn’t mean you have to accept money for your services to the organization. To be a communist is not a formal question. You are dedicating your entire life. Your entire life must be subordinated to this great cause.

Etymology

English “sacred” comes via Middle English and Old French from Latin sacer / sacra-, meaning “holy, set apart, consecrated.”
Latin sacrificium is built from sacer (“sacred”) + facere (“to make, to do”). So literally: “a making sacred.”
… → sacrifice is the act of making something sacred, originally by offering it to a deity (i.e. something that is more important than oneself, a greater cause).
